Local Authorities and Politicians

One of the aspects of local campaigning that the Branch is keen to share with both CAMRA members and the general public are the connections between the citizen and their pubs, local authorities and local politicians.

Lobbying Local Politicians

If you wish to raise issues concerning your local pub with local politicians, you have the right to do so. Politicians who ask you to vote for them are your representatives at all levels of Government. You are entitled to let them know what you think. It is also reasonable for you to ask them what they think and to ask them to help you with the matters you raise.

Citizens of the Vale of Belvoir should not be afraid to hold their elected representatives to account and in the sections below we give you some useful information to help you do so.

Our Local Authorities

The Vale of Belvoir Branch of CAMRA has a Branch Area which is non-coterminous with any particular local authority. The Branch Area has several tiers of local government administration.

Campaigners for local pubs and related issues should familiarise themselves with the local authorities and elected representatives operating where their pub is located.

County Councils

There are two County Councils operating in the Vale of Belvoir Branch Area:

Leicestershire County Council

Nottinghamshire County Council

Shire District Councils

Shire District Councils are probably the tier of local government with the greatest level of influence on our public houses and their remit includes such things as licensing, administering Conservation Areas, the Community Right to Bid (ACVs) and the local planning regime.
